Hyenas of Got Anding’o | By Odhiambo Job (Kenya)

Abstract:

A man struggles with sleeplessness in the countryside, his mind wandering through vivid memories of his childhood, village traditions, and cultural encounters with the supernatural. Amid the pitch-dark night and the haunting August wind, he recalls eerie tales of Nyawawa spirits, a terrifying encounter with a night runner, and the tense standoff with a leopard.

These memories intermingle with the present, as barking dogs and unsettling sounds outside stir fears of hyenas lurking in the night. Reflective and steeped in cultural nostalgia, his sleepless night bridges past and present, blending fear, tradition, and a deep connection to his roots.
