Abstract:
In Forgotten Souls, the narrator embarks on a train journey, observing the interactions between a young woman and a man, referred to as the “Train Guy.” The woman, traveling with her baby, is met with kindness by the man, though her troubled expression hints at a deeper story. As the journey unfolds, the narrator engages in conversation with the Train Guy, who shares a poignant story of helping the young woman escape a toxic marriage.
Their interaction leads to deeper reflection on life’s struggles and small acts of kindness. Upon reaching their destination, the narrator faces uncertainty about her own journey, eventually finding herself lost at a crossroads. However, as darkness sets in, three women carrying firewood appear, offering a glimpse of hope. The story explores themes of empathy, connection, and the complexities of human experience.
